For a unique Blue Ridge Mountain get away consider staying at Dreamscape Mountain Home, an expansive single-
family residence, the entirety of which rents on a daily or weekly basis. Minimum stay is two days and it can also
be rented for a much longer time period. Located high above the charming and historic town of Burnsville, North
Carolina, Dreamscape is central to a great many attractions including skiing and other winter sports at Wolf Laurel
Ski Resort, white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking etc. on the French Broad and Nolichucky Rivers, golf at Mount
Mitchell and Grassy Creek Golf Courses, swimming, fishing, tubing in the area’s numerous rivers, creeks and
streams, bicycling and hiking on the Appalachian Trail and many less publicized but equally beautiful venues in
Pisgah and Cherokee National Forests.
The entrance to Mount Mitchell state park is a couple miles away, as is Burnsville’s public swimming pool, skate
board ramps, town square, artistic shops and very moderately priced restaurants. Carolina Hemlocks recreation
area is a 20-25 minute drive, and is good for tubing, swimming and river walks. The city of Asheville with its
monumental, impeccably preserved, gilded age Biltmore House, large selection of restaurants and shops, and
renowned Grove Park restaurant are forty minutes away The steamy retreat of Hot Springs, Smoky Mountain
National Park, North Carolina’s family entertainment center of Cherokee and Tennessee’s Pigeon Forge and
Gatlinburg featuring Dollywood and Ripley’s Aquarium, are all an easy hour or hour-and-half drive.
Burnsville’s average temperature of 75 degrees during July and August makes it one of the nicest places to be in
the eastern United States during those months. Burnsville and surrounding towns have frequent art festivals,
theatrical performances, and opportunities to hear indigenous music of the area.
For families and groups that prefer a less well-traveled vacation, an opportunity to live and work amidst
inspirational surroundings, a home away from home that is designed to accommodate family pets, or a place to
assemble for reunions with friends and relatives, Dreamscape is ideal. The separate office structure furnishes
convenient, quiet work space for people who want to write or work while on vacation.
Easily accessible, less than five minutes from the town square, but also secluded and serene, Dreamscape’s upper
level kitchen is fully equipped with cooking facilities, adjoining dining room, pantry, cabinets, refrigerator, plates,
utensils and almost anything else you would want if your goal was not to leave home. The two floors together
have four televisions hooked up to Direct TV which also serve as gaming consoles. The Direct TV satellite hookup
also provides reliable, high-speed, wireless internet connection. Dreamscape has a separate office structure
adjacent to the main house with desk, telephone, convertible sofa and the same strikingly beautiful, recently laid
red oak floors that also furnish the house’s main upper level. Cell phone service is good for Sprint or Verizon;
there is also a land line with unlimited free long distance calling to the United States and Canada. We have a
limited amount of sports, electronic games and gaming equipment - golf clubs, X-box, game cube, various balls,
scooters and skate boards–that are free for guests to use.
Dreamscape has several connected fenced yards and decks that allow dogs to run freely while remaining safely
enclosed on the premises. A large outdoor gazebo next to the office structure and house provides a nice covered
place for parties and assembling outdoors. A charcoal grill is available for cookouts. The front, side and back
yards of the house are boundered by hand-laid stone walls and wood slat fences. Matching red wagon wheels,
swing and hanging bird feeders gives the front yard and driveway a kind of rustic charm. Local streets are
sparsely traveled and furnish opportunities for scenic or romantic walks with mountain views in several directions
and other visually interesting images.
The main upper level of the house has considerable charm inside as well. Replete with carved wooden furniture,
sky lights, bay windows, hand crafted lighting fixtures, oil paintings, ornate stone fireplace, and coordinated
decor, it has a sense of escape to an earlier era, but is at the same time equipped with modern conveniences. It
has both propane and electric heating systems as well as a gas log fireplace. There are ceiling fans, a washer and
dryer, ironing board, dishwasher, electric stove, toaster, microwave and coffee maker in the main kitchen.
The main upper floor has two bedrooms with very comfortable double and queen-sized beds, respectively. The
ground level unit can accommodate an additional four guests – two in day bed with trundle and two in a double-
sized futon. Christened the "Kid's Kave" by our nine year-old daughter, this recently constructed ground level
apartment makes Dreamscape an attractive option for families with kids and adults who want some time apart from
one another. It can also be used for elderly relatives who have difficulty negotiating stairs, and has its own
separate small kitchen, stove, microwave, dining table, full bathroom, and is heated along with the main floor of the
house. The upstairs has two full bathrooms, each with its own shower and bath tub. The downstairs unit has
been designed to be wheelchair accessible.
